1982 Mongoose Pro Class

This is my last build for a while, my updated 1982 Mongoose Pro Class. This is the third incarnation of this frame since I have owned it and I am finally happy. The frame and forks have been stripped of the chrome and re-plated in black nickel by Precision Plating in Melbourne, Australia. The bars are re-chromed, Maurice stamped, uncut Pro Class with BMX Products grips. The wheels are NOS Pro Class Series III hard anodised rims laced to NOS Suzue hubs (low flange on the rear, high on the front) by Source BMX, wrapped in Cheng Shin Snake Belly fat/thin tyres. The cranks are mint Pro Class 3-piece on a Pro Class sealed bearing bottom bracket and NOS Pro Class Power Plate / Takagi 44T chain ring. The pedals are NOS SR-468s. The headset is Mongoose stamped and the stem is a mint, polished ACS Pro Class. The brakes are Dia-Compe MX1000 with an NOS Tech 3 lever. The seat post is Ishiwata and the clamp is a mint, vintage Dia-Compe MX. The seat is an NOS Kashimax Aero. The decals and grips are from BMX products. Retrogoose Bike of the Month, October 2014.

This is my updated 1981 PK Ripper with unstamped Landing Gear forks and original, unknurled SE Powerwings. The brakes are Dia-Compe MX900s for the front and MX1000s for the rear with vintage DC brake pads. The levers have now been changed to Dia-Compe Tech 3s. The cranks are now Redline stamped Sugino 400s, with a Sugino sealed BB, with the same used, but very nice Suntour XC-II pedals. The seat is a near mint Cycle Pro Shotgun II, and the seat post clamp is an NOS, black anodised, stamped Tuf Neck. The wheels are shiny side black anodised Araya 7x rims (restored by Benny), laced to Bullseye hubs by the guys at RADBMX Shop. The chain is Izumi. The grips are NOS Oakley B2s. 1983 Skyway T/A [SOLD]

I bought a complete T/A from RADBMX in January 2014 and swapped out some of the parts for those I had bought and traded especially for a T/A build. The frame and forks were already powder coated in white and look beautiful. The crowning glory of this bike, in my opinion, are the Sugino 400 cranks, in their fantastic OG chrome. The complete bike also came with an NOS red Kashimax Aero, NOS DC seat post clamp, mint Oakley 2 grips, NOS Tioga Bear Trap headset and the used, but nice Renthal bars and seat post. I decided to go with Red Araya 7X rims with Suzue hubs - these came off of my Redline 500A build, and are immaculate. The brakes are NOS DC MX1000s with Tech 3 levers. The Skyway Tuff pedal cages  and Pro Neck II stem have been re-anodised by Benny on OzBMX. The build was finished with a mint vintage pad and an NOS Haro Tech race plate. I sold this bike in June 2014, but saved the cranks for my PK Ripper rider.

1985 SE Racing Quadangle [SOLD]

This is my first completed build of 2014, a baby blue 1985 SE Racing Quadangle with gold parts. The frame and unstamped Landing Gear were a Christmas present from my wife. I've added some NOS gold Shimano Tourney calipers, NOS DX levers, a mint Sugino Maxy Cross crank set with a Sugino bottom bracket, a Suntour 44T chain ring and an Izumi chain. I also picked up an NOS set of Skyway Tuff Graphite pedals with gold cages from a collector in New Zealand. The stem in a very nice 'Pat Pend' Tuf Neck and the headset is an NOS Hatta, both of which were imported from the US. The seat post is an NOS SR Laprade held in place by an NOS Tuf Neck seat post clamp, topped with a mint Elina Flyte Tech seat. The wheels are made up from a lovely set of Ukai shiny side gold rims, laced to NOS gold Shimano hubs. The Oakley B1B grips and Panaracer Knarler Knobby tyres are reissues from Oakley US and Natsukashi BMX in Japan. The build was finished with an NOS Haro Type 2 race plate and an NOS SE Racing Quadangle pad. I sold this bike in May 2014.

2003 Supercross NoMoreA [SOLD]

I know this isn't an old school build, but it does have an old school feel, as most of the components are vintage or retro. This is my 2003 Nomura tribute, built by Supercross. It is one of 25, 20" frames built and it's called a NoMoreA.  I opted to go with a set of Al's Rapid Transit 'Cook Brothers' Pro-sized tribute bars and retro Landing Gear forks. The wheels are polished Araya TB-50 7X rims laced to polished Bullseye hubs with a White Industries freewheel, built by the guys at RADBMX. They are wrapped in Tioga Comp III tyres. The stem is a polished Bullseye Elite imported from Planet BMX. The bottom bracket is Bullseye, the cranks are 185mm 2nd Gen Bullseye, rechromed by Doug Taylor and the spider is also a 2nd Gen Bullseye. The chain ring is a red anodised Tuf Neck 42T and the chain is Izumi. The pedals are polished Bullseye Pro with re-anodised cages. The rear v-brake and right hand lever are Speedline Elite. The seat is a retro KZ-01, the seat post is an alloy Compe Lite with a Thomson clamp. The grips are 1st Gen A'Me Duals. The build is finished off with a with a vintage Zeronine Wildfire race plate. I sold this bike in Feb 2014 to start an '81 Diamond Back Long Pro build. I really miss this bike.
